Ancient lines from a rock is expressed on an old sea map. Oil wax collage on sea map 50×80cm.

In my experience, a relaxed state of mind is when my most authentic work happen. This particular work came as a result of me buying a frame for an art exercise in oil wax, created in a great workshop in oil wax colours by @bethagrant. The frame I bought was too big. Having an impulsive and curios nature, I decided that instead of going back to the store and getting a new frame i would make the image fit the frame. I can’t have been too happy with the work as cutting it up did not seem like a mad thing to do. The workshop art exercise had provided me with rich texture to play with. As I was already super charged with another project which was rock related, elements from this seeped in, and I ended up cutting shapes modeled from a particularly beautiful rock I had found.

Rock, ocean and wind as inspiration, I enlarged the lines in the rock. An old map of the area, some fish net rope, scissors, glue and patience brought together my experience of this place by the ocean. The rock lines overlay the schematic of the landscape. Lines showing forces of energy from millions of years ago, the pressure of heat and ice grinding and churning the rock matter. Like an ancient language, I sense this energy, through me the lines are re-interpreted and now flowing over this simplified human interpretation of the ocean landscape. Intentional human energy merge with ancient matter responding to energy forces. By lining the collage edges with a strong rope used in the old fishing trade, another human element is introduced into this energy dance.
