Neon procrastination

Acrylics on canvas
40cm x 40cm

It’s a stinking hot July in Norway. The dog days someone is calling it. Today the temperatures reached over 30 degrees. My friend just visited from London, and as always when i have an awesome, creative friend over, I am left with lots of inspiration to work. This visit resulted in me finishing a canvas that I have had standing around for a few months now. The neon pink is currently my favorite color, it’s got such a vibrant, crazy energy that I can’t help but splash it on to everything for the moment. If I could say the same about my energy to prepare schoolwork for this autumn, that would be something. But instead of working on that today, I finished this painting instead. Hence the title.

Transferring the motive onto the canvas
It’s so hot this week, that I move my studio out on the terrasse.
Cooling off in the little forrest stream in between paint strokes.

What did I learn?

Being patient with canvases, I was stressing about an unfinished canvas, but it all falls into place when the right inspiration arrives.

Testing out the composition further in photoshop. Something was missing with only the large flower in place. I added the small features on the right and left, including the little bee, to use the composition to keep the eye on the canvas. The idea is that the right side bud stops the eye from leaving the canvas, and the left side details takes the eyes around again, and then back to the centre. I thought the bee gave a nice size contrast, and the lines on the flower gave an interesting texture contrast.

Thx for the inspiration Suzie! I really wasn’t sure about the dark, but i think you’re right, as if that neon could get any stronger than it already was 🙂
